Internships

The purpose of the South Carolina Democratic Party Internship Program is to offer high school and college students an opportunity to learn about Democratic politics and the functions of a political party while providing valuable work experience.  This internship will allow students to witness and actively participate in the day-to-day operations of the South Carolina Democratic Party.

SCDP views internships as being mutually beneficial to everyone. Interns are viewed as a part of the staff while they are here and will be treated as such.  We realize that this internship may be the first career-oriented job experience and there is a lot to learn.  Experiences that you learn at SCDP will follow you down your career path.  Interns who work at state headquarters carry out a combination of administrative and field duties.  The general responsibilities of the interns are:

  • Answering telephones and greeting visitors
  • Data entry and maintaining databases
  • Researching and assembling press clips
  • Assisting with special projects
  • Participating in field activities and events
  • Other miscellaneous tasks, as required

Intern Applicants can apply for either a full-time or a part-time internship.  Full-time Interns are required to work a minimum of 30 hours per week and are paid a monthly stipend.  Part-time Interns are required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week.  All internships are eligible for school credit depending on the individual school requirements.
