SCDP Response to Nikki Haley Wasting SC Tax Dollars.
February 23, 2012
Columbia, SC – South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman, Dick Harpootlian, releases the following statement in response to Republican Governor Nikki Haley’s continuous frivolous spending of South Carolina’s tax dollars.
Two years ago, Nikki Haley campaigned on the slogan of “an accountant, who knows what it means to stretch a dollar.” Today, South Carolinians are learning the true meaning of the slogan as reports reveal Haley has forced State government to spend hundreds of man hours on a bogus voter fraud wild goose chase while refusing to refund taxpayers thousands of dollars spent on her personal political travels.
The Spartanburg Herald Journal reported this morning that Haley declined to reimburse the State for the travel cost of her SLED security detail accompanying the Governor on personal political jaunts to places like New York City and Los Angeles California designed to soak GOP campaign donors in furtherance of Haley’s political ambition. Now that this practice is exposed to the public, Haley has declared her intent to refund taxpayers all monies wrongfully spent. Haley’s epiphany, however, comes over a year into her term as Governor.
Simultaneously, the State Election Commission today confirms that no evidence exists to support Haley’s politically incendiary claims of over 900 instances of voter fraud in South Carolina. According to the Commission, state employees dedicated hundreds of hours to investigating the Governor’s allegations that was “very costly to the Agency in both time and resources.” And yet, despite these intense and expedited efforts, the Commission found zero confirmed cases of voter fraud and declared its intent to end the investigation.
After one year in office, it is now clear that, to Nikki Haley, “what it means to stretch a dollar” applies to our taxpayer dollars and how far they will stretch to further Haley’s political ambition.
