Democrats Set Sights on Lowcountry

October 29, 2009

Charleston, SC- While Columbia has traditionally been the hub of South Carolina politics, Democrats are expanding their territory to another major city today: Charleston.

State and county Democrats will open their Lowcountry Democratic Headquarters in North Charleston at noon on Thursday, October 29.

The office, located at 4925 LaCross Rd. Suite 106, is part of a partnership with the Charleston County Democratic Party and South Carolina Organizing for America. The trio will use the offices to secure victories for Democratic candidates in 2010 and to help promote the Obama Administration's agenda.

"We're excited about the possibilities coming out of this partnership with the Charleston County Democratic Party and Organizing for America. Charleston County had the highest Democratic voter turnout in the 2008 general election, and this region of the state will also be critical for our Democratic candidates to win in 2010," said South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Carol Fowler.

George Tempel, Chair of the Charleston County Democratic Party, pointed to the work his organization did in 2008 as a building block toward victory in 2010.  "Our activists worked harder than ever before to achieve the kind of turnout we had last year, and we know we have even more to do to elect a Democratic governor.  This headquarters will make it possible to get the job done.
