DeMint Fails SC's Unemployed

October 28, 2009

Columbia, SC- South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Carol Fowler released the following statement today in response to U. S. Senator Jim DeMint's Tuesday vote against legislation to extend unemployment insurance by up to 14 additional weeks for jobless workers and extend benefits by six additional weeks for workers in states with unemployment levels above 8.5 percent including South Carolina.

"It's time for Jim DeMint to do the job South Carolinians elected him to do in Washington.  Senator DeMint's vote against legislation to extend unemployment benefits to states with high jobless rates was a slap in the faces of more than 250,000 of his constituents. South Carolina's working families are growing frustrated and weary of Republican leaders like Senator DeMint who do nothing for job creation, recruitment or retention in our state," said Fowler.
