SCDP Chair: Ketner Better Choice for Congress
October 2, 2008
Columbia, SC- South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Carol Fowler released the following statement in response to last night's First Congressional District debate between Democrat Linda Ketner and Congressman Henry Brown.
"South Carolina Democrats are very proud of Linda Ketner. Last night's debate showed that she is clearly the best person to represent the people of the First Congressional District in Washington. The debate also showed us how just a few years in Washington have put Henry Brown out of touch with the needs of the people he's supposed to represent. One notable example of this was his views on healthcare.
"Despite the fact that more than twenty percent of the people in his district have no health insurance, Mr. Brown has consistently voted against the SCHIP legislation to provide coverage for children, claiming in last night's debate that the vote would have funded other undeserving causes. Apparently his comfort with his own taxpayer-funded healthcare has made him insensitive to the plight of his constituents. Last night he said "they can get health care in the emergency rooms."
"After last night's debate, many South Carolina voters are convinced that it's time for us to send Henry Brown home. His services are no longer needed in Washington," said Fowler.
