June 19, 2008

The South Carolina Democratic Party is losing its executive director and has a replacement ready to take over.

Joe Werner said Thursday he's heading to Pennsylvania to run a U.S. House race in his hometown of Wilkes-Barre.

Werner has been the party's executive director for the past year. He helped organize the January presidential primary and debates after leading Hillary Clinton's presidential exploratory committee in South Carolina. Friday is his last day.

Party chairwoman Carol Fowler says Jay Parmley will take over here Saturday. Parmley was interim director before Werner was hired. He is a former executive director of Oklahoma's Democratic Party.
