Fowler: McCain Needs a Dose of Reality; Troop Levels in Iraq Do Matter

June 11, 2008

Columbia, SC- South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Carol Fowler issued the following statement in response to Senator John McCain's appearance on the Today Show. When asked by a Today Show correspondent  if he has a better estimate of when American forces can come home from Iraq, John McCain said, "No, but that's not too important."

"Maybe to John McCain troop levels in Iraq aren't important, but to the estimated 4,000 South Carolina troops who are currently away from their families it matters a great deal," said Fowler. "While John McCain and Lindsey Graham think it's a good idea to keep our troops in Iraq for 100 years, Democratic leaders in Congress feel it's time to start bringing this misguided, ill-advised war in Iraq to an end."
