SCDP Chair Questions Govenor
November 15, 2007
South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Carol Fowler released the following statement on Governor Mark Sanford's transfer of over $100,000 to Carolinians for Change Inc. that was supposed to be used for last year's National Governors Association meeting held in Charleston.
"The South Carolina Democratic Party believes the Governor should come clean with his donors. Funds he raised for the National Governors Association event in Charleston should be used for just that. Instead, Governor Sanford funneled money into the bank account of Carolinians for Change. Those donors gave to the NGA to help promote Charleston and South Carolina. Do they know the money they gave actually went to promote the Governor’s agenda and to his buddies who work to defeat both Democrats and Republicans in the Legislature? Why should the people of South Carolina trust a governor who misleads his own donors?"
