SCDP Chair Condemns Bush's Health and Education Bill Veto

November 14, 2007

Columbia, SC- South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Carol Fowler released the following statement in response to President George W. Bush's veto of a $600 billion spending bill supporting health and education programs on Tuesday.

"I think it's sad that our president doesn't have his priorities in order for this country. This bill would have provided much needed funding to the departments of Education and Health and Human Services. President Bush justifies spending an estimated $1.6 trillion on the devastating war in Iraq, but he won't spend far less than that to improve the lives of U.S. citizens. That's really disgraceful," said Fowler.

"At this point in his term, President Bush should realize that it's in the best interest of this country to stop spitefully battling Democrats in Congress and do his job."
